I love a great little short clip that tells the story with no words, only facial express, emotions, and behavioral actions. Can you think of a time or a movie that had few words, but totally could follow the story line? The first movie comes to mind for me was Cast Away with Tom Hanks in it. Please share with me any other movies you know that have very little dialog.

First Annual Wing-off: 2011

Come and join us at the first Annual Wing-Off! We are going to have a great time this Saturday, the 24th of September. Festivities begin at 2:30 – til. There’s no set time we will conclude. As long as the wings are a’blazin, we will be here. So for the details. Read the flyer and it will tell you mostly of all the things we plan to do. But if you need more explanation — here goes:

The Wing-Off is all about the grillmen coming up with a prize winning chicken wing recipe. The winner will receive a cash prize and other small awards. To be a grillmen — all you have to do is come with a bag of wings. Also, you can come with a bag of wings for the grillmen to cook for you with your favorite sauce. As for other foods…you can bring what you want. We will have beverages, but you are able to bring exactly what you want. Bring enough so that you can stay a long time.

Start time is 2:30. Arkansas vs Alabama game will be on! 3:30 wings will be served! Voting for the best wings begin at 4:15. We will award the winning grillman and continue to drink and eat more food and wings. Nebraska vs. Wyoming starts @ 6:30.

Paul Octavious: The Most Creative

Later I will write more on why I think Paul Octavious is the most creative. But for now, to be honest…I wish I had the skill he possess. To have a creative eye and gift such as he — would be a dream of mine. Seriously. I’d be perfectly content with a talent like Paul Octavious. I’m a few clicks away from buying one of Paul’s prints, from Just a Few Prints, to hang on my new office wall.

Black History Month: Funniest Video

I have to admit this is one of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen. “Black History Month: Black Inside” – The Remington Wallace Burnett Story. The part I like the most is when Walter starts to figure out he may be black after playing basketball in the green shorts. He originally would shout out — “Larry Bird!” But in the ladder he started to dance and break it down on the court after making a shot. Hilarious.

Every year around this time when I crave turkey dressing, sweet potato pie, yams, collard greens and cornbread…it’s all the things I miss being my family is native to Arkansas and I live in Nebraska. But then I always think of the song Nina Simone passionately sang – “Ain’t Got No…I’ve Got Life” always reminds me of what we think we don’t have, but the most important is that we have life. Happy Thanksgiving.

How To Be Alone

Every once in a while I’m inspired by someone courage to speak out against the norm. The norm = what society has taught us to conform to without questioning why. Tanya Davis poem is just what some of us may need to hear. There’s nothing wrong with being alone. Maybe you get a chance to hear yourself speak. Hear your inner you. Just a thought. One you may not have heard yourself say in a while. Ever thought of it that way?

Much like individuality. It’s frowned upon in team settings. When you wear a different sock than your teammate. Wear your uniform tight rather than loose. Those cases are material and external. Individualism comes from within. It’s unforced. Individuality is the greatest when it’s natural. Be you. Be natural. Be.
